Parochial Church Council
Soham and Wicken parish churches are governed by their Parochial Church Councils (PCCs), within the structure of the Diocese of Ely. The PCCs work in co-operation with the vicar to promote the whole mission of the Church: pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical.
The PCCs meet together on the first Tuesday or Thursday of the month 5 or 6 times a year at the Vicarage. Our meetings open with prayer and we then discuss matters of religious or public interest, and of wider diocesan or deanery concern. The PCCs also have responsibility for the financial affairs of the churches, and the care and maintenance of the church buildings. Beyond St Andrew's and St Laurence's, the PCCs seek to ensure that the churches take a full and active part in the life of the benefice of Soham and Wicken, including through fostering existing links with local schools and through supporting wider community events.
In addition to the clergy, churchwardens and members of higher synods, Soham PCC has 12 elected members and Wicken has 11. Members usually serve for a period of three years with a third of the membership retiring or standing for re-election each year. If you would like to take an active part in the running of the churches, please contact the vicar on 01353 725948 and come along to our Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) in the spring, where elections to the PCCs will be held. PCC members must have been on the electoral roll of the parish for at least 6 months before being elected to office.
