Our Worship
03 05 07 - 09:15Worship is one of the central activities of the Church. The word literally means 'to give worth', and as Christians we regularly meet together to celebrate God as being that which is of greatest worth to us.
Practically our worship is mostly 'liturgical' in style. This means that we use services that have a clear structure and pattern. There is a mixture of words said by the person leading the service and shared congregational responses. This way everyone gets to be involved.
We have services in both modern and traditional language. Our Prayer Book services (BCP) using very traditional language (thee's and thou's); our Sung Eucharist (Holy Communion) using modern language.
Holy Communion is the central act of the Christian Life. We join together to remember Christ's life, death and resurrection, and to celebrate God's ongoing presence in the world.
Our Family Services are shorter and less formal, and endeavor to get people of all ages involved. There can often be a big jump for young people between Sunday School and 'Adult' Worship, and the Family Service aims to bridge that gap.
Streams is a series of 'different ways of worshipping' held on the first Sunday of the month. Usually based on Iona or Taize styles of worship (see calendar for the next service) there is space for quiet and reflection as well as different kinds of music to traditional hymns.
Like any activity coming to church can be a bit daunting the first time, please feel welcome to ask any questions you may have.
