Mothers' Union
06 07 07 - 12:03
The Mothers' Union is a worldwide organisation with over 3.6 million members in 78 countries providing Christian care for families. Its objectives are:
- To promote and support married life
- To encourage parents in their role to develop the faith of their children
- To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service
- To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children
- To help those whose family life has met with adversity
The Soham branch gladly welcomes new members - you don't have to be a mother or even a woman! We currently have about 20 members and meet at St Andrew's School on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30pm. For more details speak to the branch leader, Judith Scott, on 720201.
Our branch has a programme of visiting speakers who come to talk to us about various aspects of the wider work of the Mother's Union and what we can do to support it. In the Ely Diocese the MU is involved in:
- parenting classes (including a course for prisoners at Littlehey)
- Cambridge Womens Refuge
- Whitemoor and Littlehey Prison Family Visitors' Centres
- Oakington Immigration Reception
- Ely and Cambridge Child Contact Centres
- holidays for families in need
Worldwide the Mothers' Union is involved in educational projects and support for communities in developing countries as well as disaster relief.
We also give practical support to the work of St Andrew's Church with children and families. We do this by making posies for Mothering Sunday and Christingles, serving refreshments at various events and providing resources like advent calendars or children's Bibles to the Sunday School.
